If you’re a student in Ontario looking to finance your education, OSAP can be your saving grace. This is a financial aid program that can provide you with grants, loans, and bursaries to help you pay for your post-secondary education. Applying for OSAP can take some time and effort, but it’s worth it – you’ll be able to focus on your studies without worrying to much about the financial burden while schooling.
What is OSAP?
- Grants: Money you don’t need to repay.
- Loans: Funds you repay after completing your studies.
II. Eligibility criteria
Before you start your application, it’s important to make sure you meet the eligibility criteria. To be eligible for OSAP, you must:
- Be a resident of Ontario
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person
- Be enrolled in an eligible program at an eligible post-secondary institution
- Meet certain academic requirements (e.g. passing a certain number of credits)
- Meet certain income requirements (e.g. not earning too much)
- Not have defaulted on a previous student loan or grant

Application Process

- Your Social Insurance Number (SIN).
- Your Ontario Education Number (OEN), if available.
- A valid email address for account verification.
- Personal information: Marital status, dependents, and residency.
- Financial information: Your income, parental or spousal income (if applicable), and expected education costs.
- Academic details: Your school, program, and study period (e.g., full-time or part-time).
- Proof of income: Tax returns, pay stubs, or a signed declaration.
- Identification: Passport, permanent resident card, or other government-issued ID.
- Parental or spousal details: Income or consent forms, if required.
- Grants: Non-repayable funds.
- Loans: Repayable amounts and terms.
- Deposited into your bank account for living expenses (Part after covering for your tuition amount).
- Sent directly to your school to cover tuition and fees.
OSAP Application Deadlines: What You Need to Know
Submit your OSAP application at least 60 days before the end of your study period. This applies to students enrolled in 60% or more of a full course load.
The deadline is also 60 days before the end of your study period for part-time students taking 20–59% of a full course load.
Submit your application 40 days before the end of your study period.
For both full-time and part-time students, all required documents (e.g., proof of income, identification) must be submitted 40 days before the end of your study period. Upload these directly to your OSAP account or mail them as instructed to avoid delays.
